Barcelona’s 100% start to the season came to an end

Barcelona’s 100% start to the season came to an end after a crushing 4-1 defeat against Celta de Vigo in the midweek action.

The club were overwhelming favourites to retain the league title that they won in Luis Enrique’s first season at the club. The brilliant start that led to 12 points from the opening three games ascertain this fact, but there has been signs of trouble brewing within the scenes. Barcelona needed solitary goals in order to get past opposition like Malaga and Atletico Madrid. They also opened their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Roma.

Away form, especially, was of major concern for Enrique and it has been proved right in the latest away trip. Celta de Vigo have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far. They have won all of their games apart from one until now and they kept the winning run going with a humbling 4-1 win over the reigning champions. After the game, Enrique was gracious in defeat since he accepted the fact that the opposition were simply better than them in every aspect. As a result of this defeat, Barcelona have allowed Real Madrid, who have moved to the top of the table, to open a one-point advantage.

"I'm not happy to lose 4-1. I'll evaluate and analyse it but it's a test to show how difficult it can be.All that remains is to congratulate Celta. They played a very complete game, in terms of effectiveness and their football. We suffered a lot in the individual battles - the first goal for Nolito went in the top corner but the second was our mistake. This result will be useful to tell us that it costs a lot to win - I prefer it when a team wins like Celta did, playing well. They're one of the more attractive [teams],” said Enrique.
