Xavi Hernandez Calls for Barcelona to Re-Sign Dani Alves

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez says that the club should consider bringing back defender Dani Alves to the club in the summer.

The Brazilian joined Juventus on a free transfer in the summer. He has already made a huge impact at the Italian club, who have been able to secure a 3-0 win over Barcelona in the first leg at the Juventus stadium. As Alves prepares for a return to the Camp Nou where he spent eight years of his career, Xavi has instigated the talk about a potential return to the Spanish outfit on a permanent basis.

Alves was a huge factor in Barcelona’s incredible success over the last decade. The Brazilian may have been brought to the club for a hefty £25 million back in 2008, but his record of being able to contribute heavily in the La Liga, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup cannot be underestimated.

In just eight seasons at the club, he managed to win an incredible six league titles, four Copa del Rey honours, three Champions League medals, three FIFA Club World Cup titles, and three UEFA Super Cup medals. His only disappointment may have been with the national team, as he is yet to win the World Cup. Alves, though, has won the Copa America in 2009.

"Obviously I would bring back Dani Alves. He decided to leave, but for me he is the best right-back in the world at the moment. Barcamiss him a lot," said Xavi ahead of the second leg. At the time of his departure from the club in the summer, Alves opened up on the reasons for his exit."I didn't feel as comfortable any more at Barca.Things changed at a club level and as time went on I always seemed to be the one in the firing line. 'Dani's the one who has to go,' they'd say,” said Alves.
