SILVA, ALVES RECEIVE BRAZIL CALL-UP

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has been rewarded with an invitation to the Brazilian squad after a good season with his club. The veteran centre back has been brought back into the Brazilian national team fold alongside another veteran defender in Dani Alves ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay next month.

Silva and Dani Alves were part of the Brazil squad named by manager Tite last week ahead of the aforementioned international matches in June.
On the call-up extended to 38-year-old Dani Alves and 36-year-old Thiago Silva, Tite sarcastically told reporters that the two veterans were invited to be a part of his team ahead of the qualifiers because they are athletes who happen to play football.Tite has been questioned in the media over his decision to invite ageing players like Silva and Dani Alves to his team.

Alves has been in very good form for Sao Paulo especially since he moved back to right-back from midfield under new manager Hernan Crespo and he has been rewarded with a return to the Brazilian squad. For Silva, he has helped Chelsea to both the FA Cup final and the Champions League final in his debut season at the club.

Silva signed for Chelsea on a free transfer at the start of the season after his contract with French giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) ran out in the summer. He signed a one-year deal with the Blues and the club also had the option of an additional year inserted into his contract. He was part of the FA Cup final team that lost 1-0 to eventual champions Leicester City and he would be looking to avoid the same fate when Chelsea take on Manchester City in the Champions League final later this week.
