ALVES LOVES CLEAN SHEETS

The Barcelona defender Dani Alves has said that he is extremely happy with the clean sheet kept in with the team in the recent Champions League match against Spartak Moscow.

Barcelona managed a 3-0 victory in the match, which was one of their first clean sheets after a long time. Even though the team has been hugely successful under the new manager Tito Vilanova in terms of getting the results, they have not been solid at the back due to a number of injury problems. However, the game against Spartak Moscow finished as a good victory for Barcelona in every sense.

Dani Alves opened the scoring in the match after just 16 min on the clock, while the super star Lionel Messi managed to score two more goals to make the game comfortable for the Catalan club. Incidentally, this was the first clean sheet kept by the team since the 1-0 victory against la Liga club Valencia more than two months ago. Since then, they have conceded a lot of goals, but the brilliance of players like Lionel Messi and Iniesta have been able to help them get out of trouble on numerous occasions. As a result of this victory, Barcelona now occupy the top spot in the group with 12 points from five matches.

"Sometimes we’re exposed at the back when we all attack at the same time, but we defended their counterattacks well. We did a pretty good job. It had been a while since we'd kept a clean sheet and we’re happy that we managed to do that against Spartak. I’m especially pleased for Víctor [Valdes]. We played really well going forward and we put in a good defensive performance, but the important thing is how the whole team played," said the 29-year-old Barcelona defender on the official website of the club.
