DANI ALVES THOUGHT NEYMAR WOULD JOIN PSG

According to reports, Brazilian fullback DaniAlves dumped Manchester City for Paris St Germain because he thought his superstar compatriot Neymar would move to the French side as well.

Alves was thought to be on his way to the Etihad to reunite with his former Manager Pep Guardiola. The former Barcelona man reportedly verbally agreed to join City but then made a U-turn to Paris.

GloboEsporte claims Neymar was also set to dump Barcelona but he changed his mind to remain at the Nou Camp. It seemed as if the pair would reunite at the Ligue 1 side but now Neymar is sticking with the La Liga giants.

DaniAlves received £12 million in annual wages to commit to PSG, much more than what he earned at the Turin based side Juventus and what he was to get in Manchester. After the Serie A side agreed to release him from his deal, wages played a big factor in the Champions League winner moving anywhere else.

Neymar must have been convinced against leaving by his teammates like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez – with whom he formed a formidable attacking trio – aside others. PSG are keen on landing the Olympic gold medalist but the Catalan giant would not accept any offer, even a record mouth-watering one. The French side refused to enter details of a reported move for Neymar at a press conference. Many expected the successful completion of a £190+ million deal.

Barcelona defender Pique posted a photo of himself and the troubled playmaker, adding the caption: “he stays.” PSG were gearing up to put up a strong challenge for the elusive Champions League title after years of stagnation.
